79 years ago the first American canned beer hit shelves in Richmond, Virginia. They came from a Newark, New Jersey brewery called Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company and sparked an almost immediate shift in the way that many of the nation’s breweries packaged their beer. In the almost eight decades that have followed the beer can has gone through many changes but also remained much the same.
